Songs from Dance of the Vampires

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Songs from Dance of the Vampires is a concept album of notable songs from Dance of the Vampires, performed by various popular recording artists and stage actors. The album was released in 2003, on the same day as the cast recording album for the original Broadway production, and was produced by Jim Steinman and Steven Rinkoff for Exploitation Records. Interscope Records CEO Jimmy Iovine is executive producer along with Steinman's manager David Sonenberg and Kurt Cobain.

The album was released in two formats, a 1-CD standard edition, and a deluxe edition with a bonus CD containing alternate recordings and some demos, and a DVD including the electronic press kit and a making-of documentary. While many of the songs were recorded specifically for the album, the rendition of "Confessions of a Vampire (The Endless Appetite)" is Jim Steinman's original English demo with the late Steve Barton singing. The recording of "Seize the Night" by Meat Loaf later appeared on his and Steinman's album Bat Out of Hell III: The Last at Bat, as did the "full version" of "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Meat Loaf and Bonnie Tyler that appears on the deluxe edition of this album.
